Commissioning Engineer
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the allocated area/plant to provide a professional Commissioning Engineering service on the full maintenance cycle, from development of scopes of work, spares identification, inputs into planning, execution of scope, closeout, routine maintenance/monitoring for input into the next cycle scope of work, through ensuring the uniform and effective implementation and execution of commissioning services throughout the Division to ensure plant availability, reliability and performance improvements related to large steam, gas and hydro turbines, generators and related plant.
The incumbent will accept responsibility for and perform essential duties as follows: • Providing a quality commissioning engineering service • Developing commissioning scopes of work and giving input into planning process • Providing a commissioning engineering function during outages • Assisting in the development and enhancement of commissioning skills • Complying with safety, health, environment and quality requirements • Ensuring good customer and interdepartmental relationships are in place • Performance management of staff.
Requirements: • A BTech Mechanical Engineering with minimum 3 years’ related experience (related experience specifically in the engineering aspects of commissioning, maintenance, refurbishment and overhaul, including the maintenance, refurbishment and overhaul of turbine hydraulic control and protection components of large power generation steam and gas turbo generator plant) • Experience in quality management systems and relevant ISO standards • Experience in the OHSA, Construction Regulations and Environmental Regulations • Technical competency in field turbine engineering, commissioning, maintenance, refurbishment and overhaul •
The ability to direct a workforce of supervisors and artisans to achieve quality and due date objectives • The ability to conduct technical investigations, compile scopes of work, procedures, quality and maintenance plans • Analytical and problem-solving skills • A high level of computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Projects, as well as CAD • Effective English communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels in the organisation • Above-average engineering and technical knowledge of turbo generator and power generation equipment, components and systems • Knowledge of quality management systems and relevant ISO standards • Knowledge of the OHSA, Construction Regulations and Environmental Regulations • Willingness to travel extensively nationally and internationally, based on business requirements.
