The International Commission of Jurists is a non-governmental organization dedicated to the legal promotion and protection of human rights and the rule of law.
The ICJ is currently seeking an intern to work 3 months during the period April 2014 –June 2014 within the Business and Human Rights Programme. The intern’s duties will include to:
· Research and compile materials regarding access to justice in cases of business human rights abuse in various countries with a view to complete current ICJ work in that area by updating existing national surveys and chapters. Support the drafting of the access to justice report;
· Research international legal instruments that require the enactment of legal liability for corporations or legal persons and contribute to a report the ICJ is preparing;
· Follow up to the June session of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, and the session of the Human Rights Council. Assist in advocacy efforts undertaken by ICJ staff;
· Research and prepare drafts of national laws and practice in implementation of the Optional Protocol on the Sale of Children and child pornography, article 3.4 requiring States to enact legal liability for corporations. This will feed into a compilation and a guide that the ICJ is preparing;
· Carry out other research and tasks as required, including support in administrative tasks connected to the work.
The post is Geneva based and the person selected should ideally be available immediately.
Requirements:
The successful candidates will have:
· An advanced degree in international law, human rights and/or humanitarian law, international relations;
· Swiss nationality or permit B or C;
· Fluency in English, French and/or Spanish;
· Excellent research and drafting skills;
· High motivation and demonstrated interest in human rights.
Conditions:
Unfortunately the ICJ is not in a position to offer any financial remuneration to interns. All interns are responsible for all expenses and costs incurred in undertaking an internship with the ICJ. On a discretionary basis the ICJ may offer a lunch allowance.
