Since 1999, Jhpiego has been collaborating with govt of Malawi Ministry of Health (MOH) and various partners in implementing a wide range of activities in maternal health, family health planning and reproductive health, newborn and child health, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, Current key projects include the Support for Service Delivery Integration Services (SSDI-Services), Maternal and Child Health integrated Program (MCHIP) and Voluntary medical Male Circumcision (VMMC)

HIV Diagnostic Assistant – 5 posts – Lilongwe – Jhpiego

Provide HIV testing and counselling services at the facility level as well as community level following index client, S/he also provides technical leadership for the community-based delivery of integrated HIV services and Community testing following index client testing, S/he work sunder close guidance and support from the HIV Technical Officer and HIV Technical and Mentoring officer to support the DHMT, health center staff, supervisors, Health Surveillance Assistants, expert clients and other community based service providers to meet quality standards in service provision and facilitates linkages with community level structures and institutions

Provide services consistent with HIV Testing and counselling guidelines by Ministry of Health, Conduct client and group education, pre-test and post-test counselling for the individuals, couples or families using standard protocols outlined in the MOH HTC guidelines, Performing whole blood rapid HIV Testing using revised HIV testing and Counselling Algorithms, Conduct PITC (provider initiative Testing and Counselling) at all service delivery points within the Health Facility i.e. OPD, in-patient wards, NRU, TB clinics, STI, and Family planning clinics, ANC and Maternity wards, under clinics etc, Interpret the results of raid HIV testing, Ensuring privacy and confidentiality when conducting HTC services, Promote the use of index testing approach in the catchment area for planning and implementation, Facilitate the integration of HIV testing and counselling in all service entry points, Client and group education on ART, PMTCT, TB, STIs, care and support including using standardised tools to screen clients for eligibility to these services, Ability to collect DBS samples and package it for DNA-PCR and Viral load test, Support the EID program through testing exposed infants at 6 weeks (DNA-PCR) and rapid HIV test at 12 and 24 months, Ensuring effective client referral and linkages to other supportive services, Document and collect data for analysis report writing including record keeping, Document best practices in HIV Testing Counselling/success stories, Ensuring adequate and consistent supply of reagents and supplies, Ensure that infection prevention measures are maintained at all times, Ensure that HIV testing Standards and protocols for HIV test are followed, Ensuring appropriate timely referrals to Care and Treatment for HIV infected clients, Regular update the DHMT and district based coordination on the observations from the implementation and corrective actions as agreed with HTC district Coordinator and DHMT, Organise and conduct periodic technical assistance to the other HIV counsellors based on gap/need identified, Work with district based level counterparts (HTC, Art, PMTCT, FP, TB, Nutrition, Coordinators, District environmental health officers etc)

Must be a holder of an MSCE certificate, Those with additional related professional qualifications (clinicians, nurses, paramedics) have an added advantage, Should have sound understanding of HIV/TB services including understanding of the health sector policies and programme frameworks pertaining to HIV/TB, At least 5 yrs experience working in the health sector programs with focus on HIV testing and counselling, Demonstrated plan and work with NGOs, Ability and desire to work effectively in a team as ell as independently, Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate with variety of coordinators including national level managers, technical assistance, NGOs and community level based organisations and expert clients, Past record of working effectively in multi-cultural disciplinary, multi organisational team environment, Working literacy in Word Excel and Email (Outlook)
