SUMMARY:
Counterpart International is currently seeking a Component Manager, Nutrition to manage and coordinate the project’s Nutrition and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) component for an anticipated five-year USAID/ Feed the Future Ag Diversification for Incomes and Nutrition project in Malawi. The five-year project will improve the nutritional status of women and children under five, and build the capacity of Malawian CSOs engaged in agriculture, nutrition, and WASH activities. The proposed project seeks to reduce poverty and stunting in eight districts of Central and Southern Malawi through inclusive sustainable growth in the agriculture sector and improved agriculture and nutrition behavior change interventions in rural communities. The Component Manager will be responsible for providing leadership and overall supervision of the nutrition and WASH component, as well as coordinate with other components of the project. He/she will ensure effective stakeholder engagement. He/she will provide strategic and innovative approaches for innovative and effective activity implementation. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of local context and a background in nutrition-led agriculture. This is a full time position based in Malawi. This position will report to the Chief of Party.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead programmatic efforts supporting Counterpart’s partners to implement activities that support the nutrition and WASH component of the project; provide leadership, budget oversight and strategic guidance.
• Ensure that the necessary systems, standards, staffing and strategy are in place for high quality programming.
• Provide technical leadership on issues related to nutrition, food security and Social and Behavior Change Communication.
• Support Counterpart in its institutional learning through the development of effective learning systems and processes.
• Overall leadership, recruitment, training and supervision of component staff and partner organizations.
• Support the Chief of Party in liaising with the donor, local and national governmental authorities, local NGOs, community organizations, academia and international organizations on topics and activities related to the nutrition and WASH component.
• Facilitate learning and integration of Counterpart’s best practices on food security and nutrition initiatives into the component’s technical areas.
• Keep abreast of lessons learned/experience. Maintain documentation and disseminate as appropriate.
• Ensure the highest quality of project monitoring, evaluation, reporting and communications.
RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, International Development or similar field.
• Minimum of ten years of relevant experience working directly with Nutrition, Public Health, WASH or related field in Malawi or similar context.
• Knowledge and experience in the following sectors or topics: nutrition, health, WASH, Feed the Future programming, community development/mobilization, Social and Behavior Change Communication.
• Experience working with the Ministry of Health; the Ministry of Industry and Trade; the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Water Development; and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, as well as international agencies; and non-governmental organizations.
• Ability to work well in a team environment, able to work effectively with CSOs, USAID, project staff, and other beneficiaries.
• Demonstrated leadership, as well as supervisory, organizational and training skills.
• A high level of interpersonal and communication skills.
• Professional level speaking, reading, and writing in English.
• Demonstrated commitment to gender integration and social inclusion.
• Excellent reporting and technical writing skills.
Preferred:
• Master’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, International Development or similar field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of USAID regulations, policies, procedures and/or Feed the Future initiatives.
• Fluency in Chichewa.
