ASSISTANT REGISTRARS-HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Malawians to fill the vacant positions given below tenable in the Constituent Colleges of the University of Malawi.


ASSISTANT REGISTRARS-HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

The post holders shall be responsible for the implementation of Human Resource Management policies and procedures as they relate to University’s Strategic Plan and shall report to the University Registrar and College Registrar’s at the University Central Office and College’s respectively.

Duties shall include;
a)    Serving as Human Resource Officer of the College, coordinating professional support for human resource functions and initiatives.
b)     Ensuring consistent and accurate interpretation and application of human resource policies and procedures within the college.
c)    Initiating the development of annual and long-term Human Resources plan that identifies the College Human Resources agenda as a component of the overall strategy for the College.
d)    Handling   human resource matters including recruitment, staff   training and development, performance management, staff leave management and dispute and grievance  settlement among junior staff;

e)    Managing labour relations by negotiating, administering and interpreting collective bargaining agreements;

f)     Processing of staff clearances, applications for employment permits for expatriate staff;

g)    Providing administrative services related to orientation programmes for new staff;

h)   Servicing College Committees


Qualifications
Applicants should have a Degree in either, Human Resource Management or Public Administration. Those with Masters’ degrees in the appropriate fields shall have an added advantage. 

Experience
a)    A minimum of 3 years Human Resources Management experience at a senior level in a unionised environment
b)    Impeccable understanding of Malawi Labour and Employment laws in particular, and the Malawi legal environment in general
c)    Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills

A competitive salary plus a package of fringe benefits commensurate with the position of Principal will be provided to the successful applicant in keeping with the University of Malawi structure of emoluments which has substantially improved in recent years.
