Created in 1923, it facilitates cross-border police co-operation, and supports and assists all organizations, authorities, and services whose mission is to prevent or combat international crime. INTERPOL is now looking for a qualified candidate Principal Assistant in the Capacity Building and Training Directorate (CBT/TRA).

The incumbent will provide assistance to the Capacity Building and Training Project Managers and the Head of Programmes to deal with day-to-day matters concerning CBT/TRA. These include extensive interaction with internal and external stakeholders, and the private sector.
Under the direction of the Capacity Building and Training Project Manager , the incumbent will have specific responsibility for preparing required reporting, budget execution, assessment, liaison and other initiatives in accordance with the deliverables of externally funded Programmes. The incumbent will also have specific responsibility for developing and deploying a communication strategy and coordinating the development of partnerships with relevant institutions and funding bodies.

1. PRIMARY DUTIES
The Principal Assistant will:
  • Assist in the development of externally funded programmes including the identification of training needs, selection of participants, and coordination between directorates;
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of external service providers and instructors;
  • Assist in business planning and delivery of externally funded programmes to reflect strategic needs of the Capacity Building structure within the proscribed timeframe;
  • Assist the Programme Management teams to convert strategy into action with the creation of schedules for implementation, training, rollout to member countries and evaluation;
  • Coordinate the creation and delivery of capacity building programmes;
  • Assist in the development, management and attainment of performance management, implementation plans, milestones and reporting requirements to meet expectations of external fund donors in compliance with internal project management processes;
  • Assist in the record keeping and budget execution of externally funded programmes;
  • Assist in the development and management of internal relationships;
  • Assist in the development and management of external relationships with all stakeholders;
  • Assist in the development and deployment of a communication strategy for the implementation of externally funded programmes and rollout to member countries;
  • Carry out all other duties as may be required by the hierarchy.
2. REQUIREMENTS

All candidates will be assessed on the under mentioned requirements.
2.1 Training/Education required
  • At least two years’ University education in management/administration or training-related field. Five years’ professional experience in the aforementioned fields may be accepted in lieu of the University Degree.
2.2 Languages
  • Fluency in English is required
  • A good command of Spanish and/or French
2.3 Professional experience required
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in a project-related administrative position.
  • Experience in partnering with international organizations and police agencies would be an asset
2.4 Specific skills required


  • Excellent command of office software;
  • A good understanding of project management;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office tools;
  • Excellent command of spreadsheets/accounting applications, and experience in creation of presentations and preparation of executive and business plan documents.
2.4 Specific aptitudes required

  • Ability to cope with sudden increases in workload, and high degree of availability;
  • Proactive and demonstrates assertiveness;
  • Capacity to adapt to changing circumstances;
  • Self-initiator, motivated with a ‘can do’ attitude;

  • Good listening skills.

In addition to the requirements, the following Assets and Special Aptitudes would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of any other language
  • Experience in partnering with international organizations and police agencies


3. WORKING CONDITIONS
The starting salary for a grade 6 is EUR 2873 (+ Interim Cost of Living Allowance per month for a step 1.

This post requires occasional travel on missions, sometimes of a long duration and at short notice.

The incumbent will also be required to work occasional overtime based upon workload.

* The Organization reserves the right to modify the Directorate and/or Sub-Directorate’s name and internal structure. This may have an impact on the functional title and reporting lines of this position.

*** The appointment will be made on the basis of a one year project and may be extended for a period of 1 additional year. Any subsequent extension(s) are subject to the terms of the Organization’s Staff Manual and/or the availability of funds.
