Senior IP Engineer (Planning and Implementation) – Blantyre HR14006
Reporting to the Head of Planning and Implementation he/she will be responsible for:
- Engineering design, implementation, optimization and support of the MTL IP MPLS Network and corporate networks.
- All facets of IP, security, QoS, vendor relations, network hardware and all services within the overall network architecture, design, and infrastructure. The Senior IP Engineer is the technical design authority for IP/MPLS networks and services
- Leading the design, implementation, and optimization of core and access IP MPLS networks
- IP address Management
- Networking KPI base lining and documentation
- Liaising with Commercial Innovations Department to understand evolving market requirements, make recommendations, propose innovative solutions and agree on new Internet based value added services to be implemented
- Leading in the design, implementation and optimization of Internet services (DNS,DHCP,AAA,Web Servers and Mail servers)
- Understanding technical requirements for new services, prepare tenders, evaluate options, and initiate proofs of concepts, field trials and pilot projects
- Supervising suppliers and field staff during implementation, configuration and commissioning of network elements
- Develop, implement and optimise solutions for operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning (OAM&P) of all ISP network elements, including routers, switches, network access servers, WLAN access points, DSLAMs, BRAS, VoiP gateways and gatekeepers, traffic shapers, load balancers, caching servers etc.
- Assisting account managers in the role of a presales engineer for Internet based services
- Generating engineering standards and perform acceptance testing for new equipment.
- Developing and maintain engineering tasks, engineering goals and objectives.
- Develop and maintain internal processes and provide skills training to other MTL staff on an as-required basis, through knowledge sharing and mentoring.
- Providing corporate guidance regarding vendor product and service offerings.
- Leading projects with the ability to function in a highly dynamic environment.
Skills and Knowledge
- Highly proficient knowledge of Cisco Routers and Switches.
- Design, configure, redistribute and troubleshoot IP routing protocols – BGP, OSPF, and RIP.
- Experienced with LAN infrastructure – VLAN, Trunking, HSRP.
- Experience Installing/Troubleshooting WAN circuits – T1/T3.
- Highly proficient with IP Subnetting
- Experience designing and configuring QoS – CBWFQ, LLQ, Classification Methods.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP network technologies; DNS, DHCP, TFTP, NAT, and SSL
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco IPsec, Firewall, IPS, route-maps, and ACLs
- Knowledge VoIP protocols; H323, SCCP, SIP
- Working knowledge of broadband access technologies (xDSL,WiMAX,E1/T1,Ethernet)
- Working knowledge of WAN Protocols (PTP, Frame Relay, PPPoE, PPPoA etc.)
- Technical and non-technical, oral and written, communication skills.
- Ability to provide internal and external skills training.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Sincere desire to provide outstanding support and service.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Experience
- Bachelor of Sciences Degree plus a minimum of six years directly related work experience or equivalent. Those with computer sciences have an added advantage
- CCNP certifications or equivalent preferred. CCDP will be an added advantage
