Senior IP Engineer (Network Operations Centre) – Blantyre HR14005
Reporting to Head of Service Operations the Senior IP Engineer is responsible for:-
- Engineering, support, performance and status of the MTL IP MPLS Network and corporate networks.
- Maintenance, routing, documentation as well as daily operational support.
- All facets of IP, MPLS, security, vendor and customer relations, network hardware and all services within the overall network architecture, design, and infrastructure.
- Providing customer support and guidance through backbone support as well as value added recommendations in industry best practice and network efficiency.
- Supporting network moves, upgrades, and changes including hardware installation/configuration.
- Providing Level 2/Tier 2 technical support to internal and external customers including problem troubleshooting and resolution of network events and outages.
- Providing IP troubleshooting support to sales demos as requested.
- IP network equipment, and WAN fault isolation.
- Ability to travel to MTL and customer facilities, for maintenance and new equipment installation as required.
Skills and Knowledge
- Highly proficient knowledge of Cisco Routers and Switches.
- Design, configure, redistribute and troubleshoot IP routing protocols – BGP, OSPF, and RIP.
- Experienced with LAN infrastructure – VLAN, Trunking, HSRP.
- Experience Installing/Troubleshooting WAN circuits – E1/E3/T1/T3.
- Highly proficient with IP Subnetting
- Expert knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP network technologies; DNS, DHCP, TFTP, NAT, and SSL
- Knowledge VoIP protocols; H323, SCCP, SIP
- Lead in the maintenance and support of Internet services (DNS,DHCP,AAA,Web Servers and Mail servers)
- Working knowledge of broadband access technologies (xDSL,WiMAX,E1/T1,Ethernet)
- Working knowledge of WAN Protocols (PTP, Frame Relay, PPPoE, PPPoA etc.)
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Sincere desire to provide outstanding support and service.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Technical and non-technical, oral and written, communication skills.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Science or its equivalent plus a minimum of six years directly related work experience. Those with computer sciences have an added advantage
- CCNP certification preferred.
- Unix/Linux
