Consultancy Pool for Rule of Law Projects

Location: Home-based, or any of the Commonwealth 53 member countries.

The Rule of Law Division is seeking to establish a pool of specialists with expertise in the rule of law who can play a key role in assisting the Division to achieve its strategic outcomes. These include outcomes related to the autonomous and harmonious operation of the three branches of government; the development of national institutions that effectively facilitate the administration and delivery of the rule of law and justice; and the promotion of enhanced judicial independence.
Interested consultants will be required to demonstrate expertise in one or more areas, including constitutional law; the development of legal frameworks, law reform and legislative drafting; criminal justice systems; criminal prosecution; judicial independence and impartiality; judicial education; administration of justice; law and development; anti-money laundering and the financing of terrorism; and cybercrime and cybersecurity.
Successful consultants will be approached to consider specific assignments as required. The tasks for each one-time assignment will vary greatly, but may involve undertaking research and analysis; the drafting of policy papers; and the provision of technical support, advice and training on a range of rule of law issues.
To apply, you will be able to demonstrate qualifications and/or experience in one or more of the following respects:
· A degree in law;
· A degree or qualification in a related discipline such as criminal justice, criminology, human rights, international relations, or political science;
· A degree in any discipline combined with substantial legal experience and/or knowledge;
· Practice in any Commonwealth jurisdiction as a barrister or solicitor either in private practice or in public service;
· Holding judicial or prosecutorial office; Legal academic experience.
